The Hawai‘i Tobacco Quitline is completely FREE and confidential. When you’re ready, call 1-800-QUIT-NOW (784-8669) or enroll in our Online Coaching program. The Hawai‘i Tobacco Quitline is open 7 days a week.

Talk or chat online to a Quit Coach®

When you enroll in a program with the Hawai‘i Tobacco Quitline, you will have access to a professionally trained Quit Coach®. Our coaches are specially trained to help you quit on your terms. A Quit Coach® understands how hard it is to quit and knows how to help you quit successfully. Each Quit Coach® is trained in tobacco cessation and knows the latest methods to successfully quit tobacco. They are understanding and supportive, and have previous experience in counseling. Quit Coaches® do not pressure smokers into quitting or make them feel guilty if they stumble in the process.

Set a quit plan and get free nicotine patches/gum/lozenges

The Quitline will work with you to create a plan just for you keeping in mind what has worked for you in the past and what hasn’t. From here, we will work with you to:

  • Help get you ready to quit.
  • Know what to expect as you quit.
  • Put together a quit plan that takes into account your personal needs.
  • Share problem-solving ideas to help you succeed.
  • Teach you the skills to help you break old habits.
  • Decide if nicotine patches, gum, lozenges, or a combination of these are right for you. If they are, they will be sent to you for free.
  • Help you find other programs, in your community that can help you through face-to-face individual or group sessions.

Get support for yourself or others

Once you’re ready to quit, your coach will arrange for follow-up calls, texts, or e-mails at your convenience and send you helpful materials so that you can stay on track. If you prefer, your coach can help find face-to-face support in your area. Quit Coaches® have helped thousands of smokers break the addiction. And they can help you too!

    Yes, the Quitline is completely FREE and we will never try to sell you anything. There are no services that the Quitline offers that we will ever charge you, ask for any payment info, or send you without your approval.

  • Why do I need the Hawai‘i Tobacco Quitline?

    Research shows 96% of tobacco users need support to quit for good. The Quit Coaches® at the Hawai‘i Tobacco Quitline can give you the support you are looking for.

  • What kind of Nicotine Replacement Therapy (nicotine patches/gum/lozenges) will the Hawai‘i Tobacco Quitline provide?

    The Hawai‘i Tobacco Quitline offers FREE nicotine replacement therapy (patches/gum/lozenges) for smokers needing assistance, regardless of insurance. If you call 1-800-QUIT-NOW, you can receive 2 weeks of nicotine replacement therapy if you have private insurance, 4 weeks if you have MedQuest, or 8 weeks if you have no insurance. Everyone who uses the online program, can receive up to 2 weeks of free nicotine replacement therapy.

  • How long will it take to receive my patches/gum/lozenges?

    You will receive your FREE patches, gum, or lozenges approximately 2 weeks from the point you request them. If you are planning to quit after two weeks, you may receive the FREE patches, gum, or lozenges right before your quit time.

  • What sort of person will I be talking to if I call or quit online?

    Each Quit Coach® is very experienced, has completed comprehensive training in tobacco cessation, and knows the latest methods to successfully quit tobacco. They are understanding, supportive, and never judgmental because they know how hard it is to quit.

  • Does the Quitline provide services in languages other than English?

    The Hawai‘i Tobacco Quitline has the ability to speak with people in English and Spanish and uses interpretive services for over 170 other languages through the 1-800-QUIT-NOW service.

    If you would like a Quit Coach that speaks Vietnamese, Chinese, or Korean, please call the Asian Smokers’ Quitline. This service is provided by the Medical School at the University of California in San Diego. By calling the appropriate number below you will receive a friendly staff member who will speak the language and be able to provide a choice of services, including: self-help materials, free nicotine patches, a referral list of other programs in your area, and one-on-one counseling over the phone.

    Yes, if you enroll in the Hawai‘i Tobacco Quitline, you will receive a printed Quit Guide that is relevant to where you are in the quitting process. The Quit Guide is full of information to help you get ready to quit, quit successfully and stay quit for good. It includes information on:

    • Making the decision to quit
    • How to get ready to quit
    • Knowing what to expect while you’re quitting
    • How to cope with withdrawal symptoms and stress
    • How to ask friends, family and co-workers for support
    • How to avoid relapses
  • Will my call be kept confidential?

    Your information is 100% confidential. We comply with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) – the federal act that ensures privacy.

  • Can I call if my partner, friend, or relative wants to quit?

    Yes. Our Quit Coaches® will be happy to share ways that you can help support your friend or family member become tobacco free.

  • What if I want to quit on my own or see someone face-to-face?

    If you’re thinking about quitting tobacco on your own, visit smokefree.gov. This website has ways on how you can successfully quit tobacco, even if you don’t get help. If you want quit using a face-to-face program in your community, visit our Community Programs page to find a program that is close to you.
