The Hawai‘i Tobacco Prevention and Control Trust Fund was established through Chapter 328L-2(b)(3) of the Hawai‘i Revised Statutes. The fund provides resources for community organizations to create and maintain a Hawai‘i free from tobacco use, addiction, and exposure to second-hand smoke. And that’s what the Hawai‘i Tobacco Quitline’s mission is all about.
Over the past several years, we have made great strides in tobacco prevention and control. And yet there is more work to be done. Tobacco is still the number one cause of preventable death in Hawai‘i claiming more than 1,000 lives each year. More than 140,000 Hawai‘i residents are tobacco users. Unfortunately, nicotine addiction affects not only those who choose to smoke, but everyone around them — from keiki to kupuna.
We all have the strength to keep tobacco out of our lives. With the resources provided by the Hawai‘i Tobacco Quitline, we can work together to make our state a healthier place to live, work, and play.
